So, we're baaa-aaccckk! Sorry, it's tough to do a good movie impersonation in a blog, and I'm sure Heather O'Rourke would be disappointed in my Poltergeist effort there. (Confess: who knew Heather O'Rourke? NO ONE!)
I'm back because one week from today Dee Dee and I take to the skies to head to lovely Rochester, Minnesota. Okay, lovely is a stretch. Needful. Utilitarian. Necessary. It's been two years since our last trip to the great frigid north, and the time has come to go again.
Quick recap: Dee Dee still feels fantastic. Looks...spectacular. Healthiest person that I know. However, until proven otherwise, she still houses 22-24 small carcinoid pseudo-cancer tumors in her stomach, and those wannabes simply love to invite other, meaner cancers to the party. So, she has to get checked every year for things much nastier. Some years, we can do the tests in NC; every other year we go to the gurus at Mayo Clinic. This year is one of those years.
I think this is our seventh trip to Mayo. Every time we go, the lead-up is a stressful time for us both. It has been smoother and less tense this year, and for that we are thankful. Please pray that this week would be no different.
Also, if you could begin praying now for all the normal things: cure; if not cured, at least perfectly stable, with no spread to other organs (would be terminal) and no appearance of other party-crashers (think Heath Ledger as Joker in The Dark Knight Rises, when the Joker crashes Bruce Wayne's party). Pray that our time together would be sweet, and that the gross circumstances would simply be the tools God uses to bring us closer together. Pray that I husband well. Pray that our kids, both away at college and at home, rest secure in the knowledge that the God of the universe has promised them that He will only ever do good for them, and for us; and that His promises are true and trustworthy.
In church today we sang my favorite hymn: "Whate'er My God Ordains Is Right." I have quoted it many times in prior blog entries. Pray that Dee Dee and I are both able, as we go through the minutes and hours of testing, waiting, testing, etc., to "take content, what God has sent...." Pray for her, that as she undergoes tests with horrible concoctions to drink and nuclear medicines injected that make her feel pretty awful, she can find moments of humor, moments of introspective reflection, moments of grace, moments of joy.
Thanks for following, and for joining us as we head back north! More thoughts and ramblings will follow as we near departure, and as we go through the belly of the beast!
Tony

I only wish that you could use this blog for wonderful things rather than this.
I pray that God will give each of you peace as you once again go to the Mayo Clinic for testing that I had prayed none in my family would ever have to endure. I pray that the doctors will again give you good news and that you won't have to go back anytime soon (like years and years or EVER). I will also pray that someone one day soon will find a cure for this awful disease that has touched all our lives way too many times.
I will pray for the kids as they await any news from you while you are gone. I pray that they too will be at peace in knowing God is in control. I pray that they will know that God will be with their parents as well as them.
I will pray that you will continue to be the Godly man that God has blessed you to be and that you will have the extra strength and love that Dee Dee will need.
I will also pray for your travel safety knowing that God will cover you with His wings and there you will be protected by the greatest Protector.
I will be checking your blog several times a day to keep up with what is happening.
Dee Dee is an amazing woman and you are blessed to have her as your wife and the mother of your (my grands) children.
Know that I love you both and if you need me for anything while you are gone, please let me know.
Mom
Tony & DeeDee,
I think I had hoped that this would all just go away (we used to accuse Mama of trying to be an ostrich when she adopted that approach to things we all knew were not likely to disappear), but am grateful that you have had a 2-year-break from traveling to Mayo.
I will pray for all those things you requested, and that God will provide for all those needs which have not yet occurred to you, that He would anticipate all your needs, and provide you with abundantly more.
Love you,
Linda Lee
Tony, you know we'll be praying...for all the needs mentioned and those you aren't even aware you need (but God does). And, about that Heather O'Rourke comment? Weird thing is I was googling her the other day. Little girl on Poltergeist. Died of an undiagnosed intestinal blockage that caused sepsis, and then heart attack. So there. :)
Hey Tony,
Thank you for your blog about Dee Dee and your experiences at Mayo. We are in Fla. (Destin) this winter and just hosted my brother and sister-in-law who are residents of Rochester and wonderful Christians. I'm sure they would welcome the chance to meet you and be supportive while you're there. They'll be returning by weeks end, so you'll probably miss them this year, but if you have to return in the future, let me know. Have been thinking and praying for you and your family ever since our experience together Morocco.
Blessings,
Jay
We'll be praying for you!
Love,
Laura Kate and Andrew
Praying for you both as you walk this journey again. We are blessed by you, inspired by you, encouraged to trust and walk more faithfully by you. Praying Psalm 4 for you, which you exemplify so well: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.... He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Will also pray for all your request.
I thought you were imitating Arnold!
Glad he won't be back........
God Bless!
Warmest regards,

Well written post. No one but you could incorporate pop culture movie references and cancer so smoothly. Praying for you all. By the way, heard you gave up beets for Lent. Good choice.
Dee Dee -- I'm remembering you specially in my prayers.
I love you both. Of course I'll be praying.
Please keep us updated as often as you can. All of you will be in our prayers all week. May God keep you safe in the palm of His hand.
